There's plenty for young people to do around the Vale this summer

A feast of fun lies ahead for children and young people in Aylesbury Vale this summer with a whole host of sports, activities and events to choose from.

Aylesbury Vale District Council has organised an exciting programme of holiday activities to suit all tastes and abilities, so there’s no reason for youngsters to be stuck for something to do.

From 28 July to 29 August, teams of play workers will be visiting 44 villages around the Vale to run special free play days on recreation grounds. Organised in partnership with the Sure Start Children’s Centres and supported by the Big Play Lottery Scheme, the play days offer a variety of activities for children aged up to 11 years.

Other activities in the Vale include week-long workshops in theatre and dance, and multi-activity camps where youngsters can take part in sports such as tennis, football, basketball, hockey and dodgeball. There’ll also be free drop-in activities taking place across the district including a mobile skate park and sport and arts activities.

Vale Park in Aylesbury will be bursting with fun activities on 6 August in support of National Playday. Attractions at the event this year will include circus and Umbanda drum workshops, pedal go-karts, sports and giant inflatables.

Playschemes run by the council’s leisure team are back by popular demand for the summer. Offering a wide range of activities including arts and crafts, bouncy castles and sand and water games, as well as the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends, the playschemes are managed by qualified play staff in a fun and safe environment.

For five to 13 year olds there are playschemes running at the Jonathan Page Playcentre and St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Infant School in Aylesbury from 28 July. And for children aged up to eight years there is a new family playscheme at the children’s centre in Elmhurst.

Councillor David Thompson, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: “The activities, fun days and camps we provide are not only great fun but they are designed to include all young people. Parents can feel assured that their children will be supervised and coached by reliable and qualified staff. The aim of the programme is to provide for as many young people as possible whether they live close to a leisure centre or in rural areas and to encourage youngsters to become more active with the broad range of activities we can offer.”

Summer holiday activity brochures have been distributed to all schools within the district. If you haven’t yet received your copy you can download the brochure from www.aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk/doit or for more information call the council’s leisure team on 01296 585210 or email leisureservices@aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk
