Housing Advice

What We Do

We provide advice and assistance for all housing-related enquiries, including the prevention of homelessness, joining the Housing Register, and exploring local housing options. We can also give you advice on budgeting and welfare benefits.

General information on housing

Housing Options Officers provide advice about the Housing Register, and general information on housing options. They also co-ordinate nominations to local housing associations and act as a first point of contact for most homelessness enquiries. There is a drop in surgery between 8.45 am and 12 noon every week day except Thursday when our office opens to the public at 9.45am.

If you are unable to come to the office, call the general enquiries numbers on 01296 585168 or 585197.

Who to contact if you're homeless

The Homelessness and Advice Team give help and more detailed advice to people to prevent homelessness, as well as providing assistance to homeless people for whom the Council may have a legal responsibility. Homelessness officers can be contacted during normal office hours to discuss your homeless situation and you can make an appointment on 01296 585168 or 01296 585197. Alternatively follow the link below on 'If you are homeless' for more information.

Landlord problems & relationship breakdowns

The Housing advisers give a wide range of advice and information on housing options for people who are homeless, for those experiencing a relationship breakdown, or who are experiencing difficulties with a private landlord. Contact our housing adviser on 01296 585168 during normal office hours to arrange an appointment or for general housing advice over the telephone. For more information regarding Landlord Problems see the above menu and for more information on housing after a relationship breakdown see the link below.
