Major emergencies

A major emergency is classed as a disruptive event that could happen through either human or natural causes. They are not usually events that occur every day.

They could take the form of a transport disaster, chemical incident, flooding, a terrorist attack or any number of unexpected events.

Small scale incidents occur frequently and are dealt with effectively by the emergency services.

More rarely, they can occur on a large scale and require a response beyond the day to day resources of the emergency services. That’s when local authorities provide additional emergency help in support of the emergency services.
