Grants to the voluntary and community sector

The Council's grants to the voluntary and community sector can provide funding to:

  • Improve the range or quality of service provision or existing facilities
  • New Community or leisure initiatives
  • Promotion of community events and festivals
  • Training and development of staff and/or volunteers

Grants of up to £5,000 or 30% of the cost of the project (whichever is the lower) are available.  A limited number of larger grants are available for significant capital projects that can demonstrate a clear community need.

Our grant programme works on a discretionary basis, so depends on available finance.  The number of applications we receive are often in excess of available funding. Those that are successful show how their project meets the aims and objectives of the programme and will benefit the local community by meeting a particular need eg a gap in existing provision or activity.

For further details about who can apply, what projects can be funded and how your application will be assessed please download and read "Information for Applicants" available at the bottom of this page.

If you would like to apply then please contact the grants officer who will be able to offer advice and assistance on suitable eligibility and how you can develop your project and application.  The grants officer will also be able to provide you with the necesssary application forms.

Applications are assessed on a bi-monthly basis by the Project Grants Panel. Dowload the panel timetable for 2008 at the bottom of this page for further details.
